Dr Steven Livingstone is a UK-trained Consultant Clinical Psychologist and qualified Family Therapist with over 20 years’ experience working in the National Health Service and academia.Steven’s clinical work is rooted in systemic and relational approaches, helping individuals, couples, and families make sense of distress in the context of their relationships and life experiences. He draws on evidence-based models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Open Dialogue, integrating these with compassion-focused and mindfulness-informed principles. His approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and compassionate, supporting clients to find new perspectives and develop resilience.
Steven has held senior leadership positions including Deputy Director of Psychology in an NHS Trust, where he oversaw psychological services for East London, and as Head of Staff Psychological Wellbeing at a North London hospital. He is also an Honorary Lecturer at King’s College London and has authored national guidelines for family interventions for the British Psychological Society.
Couples & Families:
Steven works with couples and families to improve communication, deepen emotional connection, and navigate conflict. He helps clients recognise the patterns that keep them stuck and build more supportive ways of relating. His extensive background in systemic family therapy means he brings a nuanced understanding of the dynamics that shape relationships and family systems.
Adults:
Steven supports adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and work-related stress. He is particularly experienced in helping people through times of change and uncertainty, working with them to build self-awareness, manage emotions, and create meaningful, values-driven lives.
Organisational & Staff Wellbeing:
Having led large-scale wellbeing programmes for healthcare staff, Steven also consults with organisations seeking to create psychologically safe and trauma-informed workplace cultures. He helps teams develop reflective practices that promote resilience, collaboration, and compassion in the workplace. He is an experienced facilitator of staff support sessions following serious incidents.
Steven’s therapeutic style is warm, reflective, and collaborative. He believes therapy is a space to explore and make sense of life’s challenges, grounded in trust, curiosity, and mutual respect. His goal is to help people find understanding and strength within themselves and their relationships.
