Dr. Jin works primarily with adults and adolescents experiencing fear, anxiety, and depression. Her approach is warm, non-judgmental, and grounded in psychological science. With her training rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dr. Jin works with clients to explore the areas of their lives they would like to change and identify their therapeutic goals. She then collaborates with them to make changes that are both meaningful and achievable.
Dr. Jin also provides specialized treatment for specific concerns, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention-deficit disorder (ADD) in adults. Depending on each client’s needs, she may incorporate strategies from other evidence-based approaches. Her aim is not only to help clients manage their immediate symptoms but also to help them recognize the processes that contribute to anxiety or low mood and develop healthier ways of responding.
For each client, Dr. Jin develops a personalized intervention plan. She works collaboratively with clients to build a shared understanding of how their thoughts, emotions, physical responses, behaviors, and life circumstances interact. Therapy then focuses on making changes that are psychologically meaningful and practical.
Born and raised in Chinese mainland, Dr. Jin lived in the United States for more than a decade before moving to Hong Kong. Having lived in different cultural environments, she understands the experience of adapting to different cultures and the challenges that this can bring. Therefore, when appropriate, she takes clients’ family history and cultural context into account.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr. Jin is an active educator and researcher. Her research focuses on the psychological and neural processes underlying emotion in general and mental health issues. She has taught postgraduate clinical psychology trainees and supervised graduate students in both clinical practice and research. Dr. Jin values the close connection between clinical practice and research and believes that each can strengthen the other. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at The University of Hong Kong.
